Wood Choppin' Continued

My foot has almost fully recovered from the nail incident (it still hurts when I walk, but its not a hindrance). We also finished sawing up the rest of the old wooden planks for fire wood. It was quite the task. I spent at least four hours by myself sawing it up/ stacking it and enlisted Emily's aid for an additional hour or so. I must admit, I stacked that wood with the skill of a Tetris pro. I hope it was all worth it!!!

We decided to go to all of this trouble so that we would have some fuel for our wood burning stove this winter. Hopefully, we will save ourselves some money on winter utilities. The pile of wood we have should last us at least for a couple of months (I hope). If not, I'm sure we can find some random wood scraps somewhere to use.

Us just being silly

FHE Episode 5: The House Imaginarium

Tonight we had a fun activity!  Andrew suggested we go back and forth listing different qualities we wanted in our dream house.. one by one we would draw each part.  It was hard cause some of the things he mentioned were unexpected and I had to find adequate space on the page for it!

The list was as follows:

Em: Big wrap around porch
Rew: Winding walk lined with foliage
Em: Roman columns
Rew: Two stories and a useable attic
Em: Pretty glass door and fire pit
Rew: On a cliff with ocean and light house in the background
Em: Attached conservatory
Rew: Forest/glade with stream and bolders
Em: (Short) Fenced yard
Rew: Swing set
Em: Garden
Rew: Chimney

Greek Week!!

This week was Greek food.. just cause!  Normally we try and find an international holiday and do a food week based around that culture.  We only made Gyros and Tiropites(I halved that recipe and still had WAY too much.. it made 42 pies).  The gyros were just pita bread, tzatziki, strips of cucumber, tomato chunks, french fries, and turkey(we used the meat we had.. and I got a KILLER deal on it. $3 for a whole turkey breast.. mmm)

The cheese pie was a reheat so it looks a little sad, don't judge!
Andrew and I have still been experimenting with pizzas, this last week was an Alfredo sauce, red onion, marinated artichoke hearts, bacon, with a stuffed crust pizza.  The only thing I would change is using plain artichoke hearts.

Yummy Food Stuffs

Our original plan before we were married was to cook a certain cuisine each month.  Andrew and I quickly realized this would be too long a period for one type a food!  So we decided to do it week by week instead.  The first week into our real life we did not have anything specific planned.

8/31/2011 Andrew took the liberty of using the special instructions off the back of a frozen package of fried rice to make a special sushi tasting treat! Instead of being wrapped in seaweed it was rolled in a roasted eggplant slice.

9/5/2011  The frozen rolls we had didn't turn out big enough to let us make a real hamburger so instead we made cute little sliders :D

9/7/2011  A wonderful homeade Pizza!!!(the start of Italian week :)

9/10/11 We had seen a 'Good Eats' episode where Alton Brown cooked lasagna in a crock-pot

9/11/2011 We had a copy cat version of Olive Garden's Zuppe Tuscana

Rusty Nail Shenanigans

Yes. That's right. I was hunted down and then attacked by a rusty nail that went rogue. It decided to stab me most painfully in the right foot. I did nothing to provoke this nail, nothing at all! Well ... maybe something ... Seriously, though, I was out power-saw-choppin' some old, nail ridden, wooden planks that used to belong to a barn. I inadvertently stepped on a rusty nail that was sticking straight up out of the back of a piece of wood. I know, pretty dumb, right? I immediately removed my shoe to assess the damage. It didn't look good. But worst of all, I knew I would have to get a tetanus shot. I. HATE. SHOTS. Hopping on one foot while trying to keep my bloody foot elevated was no easy task. I somehow managed to hop my way up thirteen steps and made it safely to our bathroom. I performed first aid (rather skillfully, I think) and then immediately hopped on Google to see what the ol' internet had to say about puncture wounds. I learned that a tetanus shot would be required, seeing I received my last one six years ago. So, I patiently waited until Emily got home from work. She drove me to the nearest InstaCare where we waited patiently for our turn to see the doctor. I tried my best not to freak out about the impending shot I would receive. The last time I got a booster shot I nearly passed out. I reacted the same way when three vials of blood were taken for testing. Needles and doctoring are not my thing. Thankfully, the shot was quick and practically painless (although, afterwards I experienced some arm soreness). The nurse cleaned out my wound with a syringe and water and then we were on our way. Next time I see a rusty nail I'll be sure to stay out of it's way.
